There are seven fundamental types of catastrophes. Beauty is not one of them.

The Grey Scale: Do you cover? + An AMAZING natural product for premature greying

I’m fairly certain the answer to this question is a resounding yes! I don’t see many 20 & 30 somethings proudly displaying their silver highlights. And yet I’ve known many women like myself, who started greying at a young age due to heredity, but you’d never know it because we semi, demi, or permanently alter our shades and have done so since forever.

My grandmother started seeing signs of grey hair at 21, she colored her hair most of her life until she allowed the salt & pepper effects to take over in her 40s. She greyed beautifully, in all the right areas, and it looked perfectly natural.

I started seeing strands here & there in my mid-20s, and opted for cellophanes to conceal. My stylist would mix up a custom creation of this gentle (semi-perm) concoction and I’d leave his salon all glossy, bouncy and grey-free. Besides one summer with blonde highlights and a damaging series of demi-perm color a few years back, I’ve always opted for cellophanes or semi-permanent color.

Now I do it myself & can’t believe how easy it is & how long I paid between $20 & $35 to have someone do it for me. 😦

But lemme tell you about this product

A few months ago, I was late with my semi-permanent touch-up. I’d been considering trying a less expensive option than my beloved Sebastian Cellophanes and my greys had become quite visible. During a deep conditioning treatment, I decided to try an Ayurvedic oil I’d had for some time but never bothered using. I applied it all over my hair & left it in for a few hours before rinsing it out. I styled as normal and went about my day.

The next morning, I noticed something strange…..my greys were not as visible as the day before. {And by not as visible, I mean barely noticeable, I even delayed my previously urgent color touch-up by a few more weeks!} I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me so I went over my previous wash day & the products I’d used. Everything was familiar except…. The OIL!

No…. it couldn’t be that!

I checked the bottle & it says “stops greying and falling of hair” among its list of benefits. I was shocked but decided to try it on the beau to see if he noticed a difference. He has some greying on the sides but it’s not as obvious due to his closely shaved haircut. So I used him as my guinea pig, massaged the oil onto his scalp & left it in overnight. More results, less noticeable grays! Ah-mazing!

Mahabhringaraj Oil is defined as Pure Maka’s Ayurvedic Medicine.

It’s benefits are:

  • Stops Greying and Falling of hair
  • Cures Sleeplessness
  • Cures Dandruff
  • Check Hair Loss [Alopecia Aereata]
  • Cures Palm or Sole Burning Sensations

The directions state “massage oil on head for 10-15 mins before going to bed. Sound & undisturbed sleep guaranteed“. If you’re familiar with Ayurvedic oils then the scent won’t surprise you, it smells like an Aveda store, very earthy and woodsy warmth. I don’t mind considering it fades over time & rinses clean, no lingering scent.

I purchased 200 ML for under $10 online. It’s a dark green oil with a formula consisting of 12 pure herbs prepared in a coconut and sesame oil base.

If you cover your grey or battling premature greying, it’s definitely worth trying! 🙂
