It’s no secret that Pantone is the world-renowned authority on color and provides color systems spanning a variety of industries in over 65 countries. Their name alone is the standard language for color communication as we know it and has been for over 40 years. Each year, in a European capital, Pantone hosts two meetings with reps from various nations’ color standards groups. They convene for two days of intense discussion, review, debate and presentations but in the end, they emerge having selected a color for the following year. The results are published in Pantone View ($450), which is the go-to guide of leading fashion designers, florists, and basically any company that makes products for the modern consumer. In other words, it’s EVERYTHING.
Last year, the color was Tangerine Tango, which I loved. This year, it’s Emerald Green – – when I think ‘Emerald Green’, I envision lush, sophistication, royal, decadence. Not your everyday color but it definitely adds a certain something to the right attire. Pair it with nude and the combination drips elegant refinement. Although, my first boyfriend bought me an emerald green lace dress that I hated, (despite picking it out)…it was lace too.. not cute at all.. I had no idea what I was doing style-wise in ’93.
But I digress….. here are my Pantone 2013 Color of the Year Selections…….
I know this is going to sound horrible, but I can’t change what I like just for the sake of trends and what’s “in” at the moment so I have to say it… I dislike the color green for clothing and accessories. Any shade of it. I can’t help it, I’ve never liked green. Needless to say, I was super disappointed when I discovered that Emerald is this year’s color. 😦 Kat
So green is to you what pastel clothing is to me. I’ve never been big on easter egg color clothing, it really turns me off. I agree about the trend thing, few of them seem appealing to me but I do like color since it can be customized in worked in how we see fit. The color of the year is always interesting to see what it’s going to be. I prefer an apple green which looks great with brown imo, but I can work with emerald too.. ; )
