There are seven fundamental types of catastrophes. Beauty is not one of them.

what she said….

I couldn’t resist …

this cheesy parody video about the beauty industry makes so much sense to me. what if beauty ads were just plain honest sans hype, Photoshop and all the bulls****! how much would that really impact its bottom line? gotta wonder…

personally, I think an honest approach would be welcomed. It’s not like all makeup, hair and skincare products suck. there’s a ton of good stuff out that we all love and swear by. I’ve yet to meet a woman who doesn’t own at least one holy grail must-have beauty product that she’s purchased for years and years. It’s the accepted behavior of over-promising and false advertising that we can do without. sadly, honesty does not sell so no risk of that happening anytime soon.

here’s another eye-opening view of “beauty” – next time you see an ad & think, “soo wish I looked like that”, just remember, the models/celebs featured are thinking the same damn thing.. it’s one thing to look at someone else with envy but to have to look at yourself that way must evoke some form of self loathing. these women are some of the most beautiful in the world yet magazines obliterate their photos in the name of “editing” which sends ONE message – you’re not enough.

not thin enough, tall enough, firm enough, smooth enough, curvy enough, light enough, dark enough or pretty enough to sell the product, represent your own words, appeal to the right audience, so we’re gonna change your image until you’re finally – good enough.

we all laugh it off in the name of beauty and vanity but given the insane stats & often bad results of plastic surgery (it’s no longer just for celebs)… housewives… school teachers… middle-management corporate america and your next door neighbor are all seeking injectables, implants and nip/tucks to improve their appearance. aging is a bad thing in this country. it’s synonymous with ugly and everything you don’t want to be. screw life’s wisdom acquired with each passing year. the mainstream view is to fight getting older with everything you’ve got. that’s probably part of the reason so many celebs go under the knife more often than they admit (IF they admit to it). living atop a world where everyone wants to be everyone else can’t be easy, especially if you don’t know yourself or have a strong foundation to hold on to when everything around you (and on you) falls. gravity with age is a son-of-a-sucker and nobody likes it… sad truth.
