Fun Fridays | Liebster Award
Are we really three weeks into February? Amazing. Seems it was just New Year’s and now we’re heading into the last month of the first quarter. Reflecting on how you’ve spent your time so far? Mishaps, regrets, corrections and planning new goals? Me too. All par for the course…

So this week’s Fun Friday will be a little different, Delia from Shimmery Black has nominated me for the Liebster Award. Blogger awards are a great way to learn about the bloggers whose content you enjoy, so of course I’m going to participate. And thank you Delia for the sweet consideration!
So what’s a Liebster Award?
The Liebster award is given to up and coming bloggers who have less than 200 followers. Liebster is German and means: sweetheart, beloved person, darling.
Rules for receiving the Liebster Award:
- Thank the blogger who nominated you by linking back. ✓
- List 11 (random) things about yourself. ✓
- Answer the questions selected by the blogger who awarded you. ✓
- Ask 11 questions of the bloggers you will award. ✓
- Nominate nine bloggers with less than 200 followers. {I tapped out at seven, sorry}
- Let the nominees know by leaving a comment at their sites. ✓
- Add the award image to your site. ✓
*Note: There is no general committee that awards the Liebster. It’s more of a lovely recognition from one blogger to another for their blogging awesomeness. It lets you know someone out there is checking out your stuff and giving it the virtual head nod accompanied by a raised glass and a wink! That’s my take on it anyway…. Okay, so here we go…
11 Things About Me….
- Very few people know me very well. By my own admission, I am hard to get close to. I don’t really know why.
- I have a love/hate relationship with my hair.
- I have a pretty sarcastic and goofy sense of humor but it suits me just fine.
- Most people think I’m a good public speaker but it’s one of my biggest fears. I bombed terribly once during a major work presentation, and its haunted me ever since, despite redeeming myself in several similar presentations that followed.
- I LOVE music. I have every genre on my iPod. Each phase of my life has its own soundtrack…
- I wish I could be more spontaneous.
- I’m not the best with calling people, but I love my immediate family to pieces and I’m proud of every single person (pets included).
- At 13, I was hit on the head by random softballs twice within the same week, yet I was not playing the game. I was at the park though.
- I’d love to write a book one day about my life but I could never be that candid.
- I’ve been told more times than not that someone knows someone who looks just like me. I’ve yet to agree on any occasion. Most popular comparisons include: Vanessa Huxtable (in grade school), Claire Huxtable (in high school), Paula Abdul (in high school) & Michelle Thomas (in my 20s & beyond, most often compared – may she rest in peace). Michelle may be the closest yet but not an exact match.
- Gwendolyn Brooks – 9, Nikki Giovanni – 12, Maya Angelou – 13, Jessica Care Moore – 14 , Sapphire – 22, Jessica Holter – 25, Tia Williams – 25. I’ll never forget the first time I became familiar with each of these lady authors, I’ve listed my age at time of discovery next to their names. ALL amazing, AWE inspiring & ALTOGETHER Phenomenal!
Q & A Time…{questions selected by Delia}
1) What is your current favourite song?
☞ I’ve been watching Idol lately, and Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know is stuck in my head. His voice on the chorus reminds me of Sting!
2) Name a makeup product that you can’t live without.
☞ Just one? Ben Nye Banana Powder.
3) Books or films?
☞ Another tough one, films that make me want to read the book.
4) What is your biggest makeup mistake so far?
☞ Wearing mascara that irritated my eyes for far too long.
5) What country (besides the one you live in) do you feel attracted to?
☞ Italy, my grandmother hails from Rivisiondoli and I’ve always wanted to visit.
6) What is your favourite season?
☞ Summer.
7) Black or white?
☞ Black.
8) Do you read poetry? If so, name a poem that you like.
☞ I love poetry, I’ve written over 200 poems, and had a few published here & there. I used to send a poem of the day e-mail to 50+ people. Then one day, a friend forwarded one of my poems to me. It was plagiarized by a famous preacher who signed it as his own & till this day, people think he wrote it. Taught me a valuable lesson about copyrights and sharing unprotected work. I have many favorite pieces, and I’m just now getting into Dorothy Parker’s legendary work after all these years, Afternoon is my favorite.
9) What hobbies do you have, besides beauty and fashion?
☞ I love reading, and I’m kinda obsessed with grammar books. I also really enjoy Pinterest, I’ve learned so much on that site about everything from photography to history and health. I’m a fan of classic Hollywood too. Besides that, visits with my family and lounging with the beau and Bella are great ways to spend time.
10) How do you picture a perfect saturday evening?
☞ At home, enjoying a good meal & cuddled up on the couch with the beau, watching a movie or whatever’s crowding up the DVR. I know, I’m terribly exciting, I really need to scale it back a bit.
11) What type of accessory do you wear the most?
☞ Earrings mostly. I’ve never been that big on accessories for some reason, but I really admire women who pull looks together flawlessly.
And now, my nominees:
Please forgive me if you have more than 200 followers as I tried to verify on everyone’s site first.
- Starlandia – A fun blog about beauty, fashion and life from the perspective of a young blogger living in Rome.
- Make Up Monster – Great photos and detailed reviews by a Journalism major turned beauty blogger. She even has a cruelty-free section…
- Ew.Rewd – Just a bullshit blog. Her words, not mine. I get her humor and I like it. If you like sarcasm and profanity, pay this blogger a visit.
- Beauty and the tomboy – A tomboy’s take on beauty, complete with reviews and great photos. A well laid out beauty blog.
- Life Through the Eyes of a Cat – Kat’s one of my blogger buddies, and she has a cool feature called “Sale Spotting”, where she lists details of big brand beauty sales such as Urban Decay and Tarte.
- Alkemebeauty – A talented makeup artist with a penchant for the natural. My kinda girl.
- Olvera-Potts – Need some inspiration on your weight loss journey, maybe a healthy recipe or two? You’ll find Desyree’s blog inspiring as she shares her journey toward a healthier lifestyle. Her strawberry, blackberry, spinach and flaxseed smoothie looks delicious!
Okay ladies, here are your questions:

Absolutely! Great blog. : )
Awwww!!! Congrats to you! And thank you from me 🙂 I need to get my behind in gear and work on my award posts. My time has been consumed by teenagers lately. You are truly so sweet and talented girlie! Hugs, Kat
p.s. We have SO effing much in common I can’t even believe it. I’ve determined, by reading your answers to the questions, that we must be long lost twins who were seperated at birth! 😉
LOL, that’s hilarious…. definitely looking forward to reading your answers now!
Thanks Kat, so kind of you to say! And of course I had to nominate YOU, first person that came to mind…
Awww. You’re gonna make me cry. In a good way. You totally made my day. I have been meaning to surprise you with something for several weeks now, I just need to get off my arse and actually… surprise you with the surprise. Lol
What happened to your poem is awful, I’m sorry to hear that. I write poems too, but I feel awkward about showing them to people. >.<
It was tough, especially when I was repeatedly unable to reach him, then came the reality that proving it was my piece was going to be tough considering I had not taken proper measures to “legally” protect it. But don’t feel awkward about sharing your work, I felt that way too for the longest time & wouldn’t share them with anyone but slowly started as a teen with friends, and eventually an open mic event. That’s a great place to start because those events are so supportive and everyone there loves poetry. : ) Keep writing if nothing else!
Awwwwww!!! Thank you so much!! I feel so honored!!!! This made my day!!!! Big hugs from Rome, Katica
You’re more than welcome Katica, your blog brings a lil bit of Italy to the states for me. Love the pics and checking out the places you visit, such a beautiful city!
