There are seven fundamental types of catastrophes. Beauty is not one of them.

My first step in greening my beauty regimen….

Olive-Oil

……Oddly took place over 13 years ago, and the reason had more to do with vanity than consumer awareness. Even though I developed a random interest in DIY beauty when I was 13, I didn’t know there was any such thing as harmful chemicals back then. Never thought about reading ingredient lists nor was I acquainted with anyone that did. There were no blogs, no eco-friendly websites, no green beauty gurus or any of that stuff. It was the late 80’s, what can I say?

Fast forward to 2000, when I grew utterly annoyed with body lotion. Applying it & having to rub it into my skin for what seemed like forever just really irked me & always had. So one day, I tried oil instead. The only oil that was really talked about in a mainstream way was Extra Virgin Olive Oil. I’d used it for cooking and liked that it was odorless, natural and good for you. Since my first time applying it post-shower, I’ve never looked back! Body oil is the best! It keeps my skin soft, supple, smooth and unlike lotion, feels like it really penetrates. Lotion coats. Oil penetrates.

I’d used EVOO for the longest, like 10 years and didn’t bother experimenting with other oils until three years ago. I’ve since tried Jojoba, Sweet Almond, Coconut, and my favorite – Grapeseed. It contains more linoleic acid than any other oil.

Research points to linoleic acid’s anti-inflammatory, acne reductive, and moisture retentive properties when applied topically on the skin.

My favorite way to apply: I store my body oil inside a plastic bottle with an easy-pour spout and keep it in the shower. I apply it right before stepping out & let it absorb while I’m getting ready. Then I just dab away any remaining with my bath towel before getting dressed. In the summer months, I switch over to a dry olive oil spray from a local salon, it’s heavenly.

I’ll be sharing more green beauty stories & tips as I overhaul my current beauty regimen toward greener pastures, a Disk defrag of sorts, if you will.

I’d also love to hear your green beauty tips and tricks, favorite products & regimens as well!

If you’re aspiring to make some natural changes & haven’t yet, perfect-timing, we can head down that road together.. 🙂

Olive oil is kind of a miracle worker. Welcome to other side where the grass is greener. 🙂
